Participants of «The Veteran’s Hut» took part in a training session for veterans' and military families.

«The Veteran’s Hut» team joined the training «We Are Here», organized by the subsidiaries of the Canadian insurance holding Fairfax in Ukraine (ARX, Universalna, Colonnade) for their employees and their families, whose husbands/wives are defending the independence of our country. Since the beginning, ARX has supported our project on psychological and training for veterans, so we gladly participated in the event.
A special guest at this event was Canadian senator, retired general, and author Romeo Dallaire, who commanded the UN peacekeeping contingent in Rwanda from 1993 to 1994 during the time when 800,000 locals were killed as a result of genocide. Dallaire wrote the book «Shake Hands with the Devil», where he shares his views on those tragic events. He struggled with depression for many years and even made several suicide attempts. During the training, he spoke about his experience and what helped him persevere.

Chief psychologist and author of «The Veteran’s Hut» project, Oleksandr Tkachenko, discussed the specifics and approaches to communicating with veterans at home and work. Participants from the Veteran’s House, including two veterans, the wife of a veteran, and the widow of a fallen soldier, shared their experiences. The conversation proved to be very moving, and we hope it was beneficial for the listeners. «The Veteran’s Hut» team also held an art hour with paper-mâché for the company employees - these activities help to relax and express emotions through creativity. Additionally, the training featured a special therapy dog - a husky named Myshko.
